@Fairphone This is _not_ a good thing. Given that you did not get updated blobs from Qualcomm, it is putting your users at risk from exploits that have been public for years.

The only right move - for an online phone - is to recycle the Fairphone 2 and get a new phone with full security support.

Remember, there is a generation that don't see nothing wrong here.

Boost if you get it ;)

Oh, and it's also really cool for too - the MT32 was the dream midi device for a lot of people and I've written up on the github wiki how to use the serial connection to play dosbox games on windows with this device connected via an ftdi or other uart usb chip.

Got a USB keyboard without a and then got buyer's remorse? Add a Pi plus DAC to it and add that audio out you decided you didn't need originally. Can confirm this works nicely : github.com/dwhinham/mt32-pi but remember that an MT32 has an empty patch on channel 1 so set it to soundfont mode or nonstandard mapping in the ini file.

#gitea was hosted on Github, but had a clear plan on what milestones had to be passed for them to start self-hosting. Now they're migrating to gitea.com/gitea/gitea . Gitea is a productive environment in which to host your project. With @codeberg you even get #codeberg Pages.

Github was proprietary from the beginning, but after Microsoft's acquisition it has moved deeper into the Extend phase with Github CLI. They're aiming for the entire open source infrastructure to orbit around them. Don't help them move the free software and open source world in this direction. You don't actually need Github. They need you.

"Living Like It's 99: No Social Media, No Smartphone" by Gregory Alvarez alvarez.io/posts/living-like-i

This is fascinating. I'm not this hardcore, but the way he describes it, maybe it's not so bad? The credit-card-sized dumbphone is neat.

:boost_ok: :ablobcatwave: Please boost this post if you would like the EFF to join the fediverse. :ablobcatbongo:

In a survey the EFF sent me, I suggested they create an account on the fediverse, so they can reach more supporters and support innovative free software that promotes interoperability among platforms, something they've advocated for in the past, too.

If you can boost this post, maybe I'll be able to show them that there are quite a few users who would like them here!

The EFF is the infamous nonprofit organisation that fights for privacy, government transparency, and digital freedom. Their fight is very important, and the EFF is very special to me. https://www.eff.org/about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Frontier_Foundation

You can see some of their work here https://www.eff.org/work

In the meantime, you can follow @eff, which is an unofficial mirror of their Twitter.

I have been thinking about how different people interpret data differently. And made this xkcd style graphic to illustrate this.

This is a long shot, but I want to put the power of social media and federation to the test.

My son wants to become a commercial airline pilot when he’s grown up. It would be awesome if we could find a commercial pilot in the fediverse that we can follow and ask questions of.

If everyone who reads this could boost it, it would be much appreciated and it would mean the world to my son if he could get in touch with a real-life commercial pilot! ✈️

So my latest toot/birdsite posts might make you think I’m against the concept of cryptocurrencies in general. I’m not. For the same reason I don’t hold a grudge against Merkle trees, DAGs, or public-key cryptography.

What I am against is Proof of Work (PoW) – used in Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc. – which constitutes an unconscionable, unsustainable, and deliberate waste of energy. PoW is not a requirement for cryptocurrencies. For a more sustainable implementation, for example, see Nano.
